Week 5: Wednesday

[disclosures]

[It seems like she's trying to reach for something small up on a high ledge. There's a stack of tables arranged in almost a staircase as she grabs whatever it is. She doesn't know who's around her and what the result of touching it is going to be.

But once she's grabbed it, the memory bubble starts, Rebecca staring down at her own hands, uncomfortable with the revelation she's almost making.]

Not me, my student. But...yes and no. She threatened to kill me because I accidentally saw her in such a vulnerable state.

[ he groans. ]

She's part of a very important family of Magi. To those families, things like honor and power are very important to them. Something like this is a grave transgression to them...as exaggerated as it may seem to you or I.

[Rebecca just looks very confused as he explains.]

I mean I know plenty of very proud people but I don't think they'd threaten anybody with death for humiliating them. Maybe the death of their social life? That's the closest it would get.

Oh, she tried to do that after, don't worry about it.

[ he's so tired. waver's explaining this like it's the most normal thing in the world you know? ]

You've had a very weird, magic filled life, you know?

Magi are a lot more vicious than other humans, unfortunately. Personality wise, more of them resemble hyenas than actual humans.

[disclosures]

[Ah yes, this definitely still sounds like Illuminati to her.]

Aren't you one too? You seem pretty human to me.

I'm not exactly well-liked around Magi either. Some of their ideas I simply cannot accept myself.

So you're in a weird part of society where you aren't really welcomed by normal people, but the Magi you'r part of don't like you either.

... Why do you have the title Lord then?

[londonstar]

Because the true heir of the El-Melloi faction gave the title to me while she turns of age and I owe them a large debt.

[ there are a LOT of details missing in that statement but... as long as rebecca doesn’t ask... ]

Magi sound way too complicated and I'm a lawyer. I didn't know titles could changes hands like that.

Sure they can. The same way the Queen can bestow the title of Lord to anyone she deems worthy, this girl named me because I was the most worthy of living a life full of headaches and stomach ulcers.

[ he's having a fun life ]

... What? She can? Look, the only titles I actively work around are esquire and that's the kind you definitely have to earn.

Anyway, being stuck here doesn't lessen any of that, I bet.

It's about the same, really.

I'm sorry about how awful your life has to be at home if this is normal for you.

No apologies needed. Despite my unwilling position as Lord, everything I've done with it has been a series of decisions that I've made on my own.

[ he could have traveled the rest of the world or have given up his dreams to become a magus. he could've led a more normal life, suited for someone like him. probably the life that his mother would have wanted for him.

and have been thoroughly unhappy. ]

Well... as long as you can live with it, I guess? Living with your own decisions is the important bit.

[She's definitely heard that saying before. But for her it's more like when life gives you lemons you live with the sourness for 28 years.]

Sure it is. Magi are the only fools that will willingly and recklessly pursue something that will bring them nothing but hardships.
